Healthy Kids Running Series, founded in 2009, is a national nonprofit organization that organizes positive, fun running programs for kids age 2-14. The running activities encourage kids to get active and lay the foundation for a healthy lifestyle.

The organization has over 300 course locations across the country. You can search by location to find the program nearest you.

Mission

Engage communities and families by providing an inclusive youth running experience, inspiring kids to believe in themselves and lead an active healthy lifestyle.

Running Program

Healthy Kids Running Series offers 5 race events during both the spring and fall seasons. Race day is typically held on Sunday afternoon. There are no training sessions.

  • PreK (2-3 years old) kids run a 50 yard dash
  • PreK (4-5 years old) kids run a 75 yard dash
  • K – 1st grade kids run a 1/4 mile
  • 2nd – 3rd grade kids run 1/2 mile
  • 4th – 8th grade kids run 1 mile

Registration

Registration typically opens in January for the spring program and in June for the fall program. Registration fees cover the costs of renting facilities, marketing, bibs and other organizational costs.

The cost is a flat fee per runner and includes 5 races and race bibs, as well as any sponsor provided give aways. Racers who register for the full series (5 races over 5 weeks) receive an HKRS tee shirt.
