Detailed Information

Service Stars runs camps and school vacation day programs that get children in grades 1-8 involved in hands-on community service projects. Students help local charities, develop empathy for those in need, and gain experience in teamwork, while having a lot of fun.

Service stars runs a three-week summer program, week-long school vacation programs, and weekend service events.

Projects

Children will complete projects at a community center in Newton and other local charitable organizations. The daily schedule includes a fun service project, team building games, movement and play breaks, group lunch, and a wrap up to discuss additional ways to continue community service from home.

Examples of previous projects include:

  • Cradles to Crayons – Campers learned about the services of Cradles to Crayons, distributed flyers around the local community, and collected and sorted many bins full of clothing, toys, books and baby items for donation.
  • Green Newton Recycling Drive – Children learned about the recycling process and renewable energy, decorated boxes and flyers and made a promotional video.
  • Jared Boxes – Kids decorated and filled boxes with toys, games and personal notes. The boxes are delivered to local hospitals to lift the spirits and provide support to young patients.
  • MSPCA – Campers met animals, learned about animal adoption and the services provided by MSPCA, created blankets for the shelter animals, and baked dog treats to raise money for the shelter.

Other Opportunities

In addition to summer and vacation week camps, children may host a service-themed birthday parties at Service Stars.
