The Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics sponsors free programs for the public. Observatory Nights are held on the third Thursday of the month, six times during the academic year. These events feature a nontechnical lecture and telescopic observing from the observatory roof, weather permitting.
The lecturers are intended primarily for high school aged students and older audiences. However, children are also welcome and must be supervised by parents and/or adult caregivers.
Admissions
Admission is free and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Directions and Parking
Events are held in Phillips Auditorium at the rear of the CfA complex near Madison Street. Entrance is on the west end of the CfA.
Public transportation is available. From the Harvard MBTA red line station, take an Arlmont Villiage bus, a Belmont Center bus, or a Huron Avenue trolley going west on Concord Avenue and exit at the Observatory Hill stop.
Parking lots marked for Observatory Staff are open to the public on event nights and the parking is available for free.
