There are many beautiful areas across Massachusetts to enjoy hiking. Below is an initial list we have compiled. Please contact us if you have additional suggestions that should be included.
Belle Isle Marsh (East Boston) – Boston’s last remaining salt marsh offers visitors with beautiful viewings of plants and wildlife. There is a walking trail to the observation tower. The marsh is located at 1399 Bennington St., East Boston, MA, a short 3-5 minute walk from the Blue Line MBTA stop at Suffolk Downs.
Drumlin Farms (Lincoln) – Explore a working farm and a wildlife sanctuary. Kids watch pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, and cows in the farmyard and learn about sustainably grown crops. You can walk the trails to observe plants and animals in their native settings and observe resident owls, a fox, and deer in the native wildlife exhibit. Drumlin Farms is located at 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA.
Middlesex Fells Reservation (Stoneham) – There are more than 100 miles of mixed-use trails available for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Visitors can also rent a kayak on Spot Pond and dogs enjoy running off-leash through Sheepfold Meadow. The park is located at 4 Woodland Rd., Stoneham, MA.
Blue Hills Reservation (Milton) – With more than 7,000 acres, the Blue Hills Reservation offers an abundance of outdoor activities from hiking and mountain biking to snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. There are more than 125 miles of trails, swimming areas, athletic fields and horseback riding trails. Parking, restroom facilities, an observatory, and grilling and picnic areas are available. The park is open from dawn to dusk and is located at 695 Hillside St., Milton, MA.
Hammond Pond Reservation (Newton) – There are over 110 acres in this state park. The pond is rich with wildlife and plants, and visitors spend their day rock climbing, bird watching and hiking. The park is located at Hammond Pond Parkway in Chestnut Hill, MA. Parking is available at the The Street Chestnut Hill shopping center, which is located at 33 Boylston Street in Chestnut Hill. The entrance is at the west end of the shopping center on the side where Davios restaurant and Showcase SuperLux Cinema are located.
Walden Pond State Reservation (Concord) – A visit will bring you back in time. Experience the connection with nature that inspired Henry David Thoreau to write Walden. Visitors can hike, walk, boat or even volunteer to work on the farm. The park is locate at 915 Walden Street, Concord, MA.
